Victory Monument
Zadar/2009 urban planning Specified site area within Zadar bay has threefold structure, and comprises aquatorium, in front of the bay, narrow coastline and portion of off-shore area. Longitudinal profile indicates that there is a special relationship between sea and coast where there is a constant transformation of natural characteristics. Growth of the city required bay land embankment that gradually transformed coastline and sea depth. Within the triad of longitudinal profile, simply perceived sea segments, undeveloped land and artificial forms navigate different anticipations in relation to development of land structures. Small segment of aquatorium in front of the bay is of the very important memorial potential, a fringe line where two natural phenomenons encounter, sea and coast. The area is a source of the most vigorous imaginations and substantial interpretations, focal point for all cityscapes, from all city's areas, and therefore chosen for the city's liberation monument. The next segment of the land triad is the city park whose existing form is completely retained with addition of the arc pool at south east end of the bay that, on symbolical level, has the role of resemblance to land in-fill ,where some time ago was an open sea, while functionally assists transformation of micro climate lowering temperatures of nearby environment during summer. In third segment of triad composition , within the area where previous market was located, we can find city art gallery with single garage level within underground structure. Roof of the city art gallery functions as new city square designated for different public manifestations related to culture and entertainment that gallery's infrastructure may uphold. Liberation monument is designed as arc, form that derives from archetype paradigm of formal and symbolic significance. Arc form is one of the most ancient models for celebration of victory – image that belongs to all epochs and all visual medias, from painting and sculpture to architecture. Authentic symbolism is mythical, relies on form of champion aura and materialises as arc structure in linear and space interpretations.
